Humiliation

Old poem of mine from 2005. I found it while looking for something else, and figured I'd share.

Humiliation

Tell me, my ruined pride,
Where hast thou taken me?
I was lofty, my crown worn high—
Then thou cam’st and vanquished me.

You stole my joy;
You my soul wrenched
To be a slave to thee.
You set me in the high place for the pleasure of my fall—
Oh how you mocked my shame!

And when for help I cried out
You beat across my mouth—
I begged for mercy, none did come—
Dost thou kick a dog who begs?

Thou scorned mine anxiety,
Robbed my honor,
And stole my glory by—
I was a king, O pride,
And thou didst ruin me—
Thou hast sold me as a slave.
