Meditations: Song of Petition

Just a little thing from awhile back. Almost sounds like something William would say to Jocelyn. Or maybe she would say to a particular individual...in the aftermath of some things.

But you don't know that tale yet. So...here 'tis.

"What's left of our friendship,
is born out of hardship--
what once I admired
is now less than inspired.

I asked for bread, received a stone;
I asked for brethren, not coldness alone.

Respect and honor come high,
Born on the wings of cherubim,
Skirting above the circle of the sky,
And filling each crevice of the deep.

Holiness is healing--
the greatest among us became a slave;
Righteousness is cold spring water--
the All-Powerful became weak.

Mercy came by way of Justice--
who the sinner he did spare;
Faithfulness came a surprising gift--
the Trustworthy one bore children.

The Prince of Peace made war with Death;
And the Liar by Truth was slain;
Zion is born on eagle's wings;
those in darkness felt morning rays.

Bear me heavenward, my sun & shield;
Take me to the place where you are;
Let me see with unveiled face;
Let my eyes see clearly what's now so dim.

O God of my salvation come;
God of my strength and song--
Lord of my confidence and Master of my soul--
Open wide the gates of grace.

Justice is a mighty river;
Righteousness a stream eternal;
Faithfulness looks to hope;
and the Sustainer will always come.

Take no prisoners, God of Peace;
Do not be silent, world-speaker;
Come know the chaff from the wheat;
And, God willing, spare your sons.
